Am a Student taking bachelor in Health Managent at Divine Word, who once did my pratical at GGH. During my time of work experience, a very disorganised section i saw was medical records. My heart really went out. I was just thinking how do the management make sound decision without proper information. Information is a vital resource in any organsation. When i read the news and search the site i was over joyed.

How is medical records then? There was only one staff, no computers for data entry, stacks of records
every where which can hardly be easiy retrieved. How is it intergrated with this paradigm?

Cheers to GGH

I would like to say a word of Thank you to the hard working nurses and Doctors of your hospital as my son Luke S. Kriko Jr. and daughter Kay-Stainlyn Kriko have been in and out of your hospital for quite a lenghty period.

My wife Janet told me wonderful things aout your hospital as I was working in Port Moresby at that time. She also told me about the general cleanliness and the scenic environment.

I am a Nokondian but have never lived there all my life but for your hospital to be the first to go online with your own website is a plus.

Please keep up the good work.

Regards.

Well done GGH for the tremendous effort put into embracing IT technology.

I read your story on the National Newspaper (September 27) regarding the
new website & IT facilities installed @ggh and I did surf your website. It
was fantastic job done.

You did a marvellous job to cope up with modren IT technology to improve
and enhance patient care and to deliver effective health services to the
people of Eastern Highlands as well PNG.

Congratulations the Board Members, Dr. Joseph Apa (CEO) & GGH Staff for
taking brave step into latest IT world. That’s the way to go. You are the
first and example to other hospitals in the country.

Story by Ms Theresa Palou (Manager, Pathology Services at Goroka General Hospital)

The quality laboratory training for laboratory managers was conducted in Goroka for a week on the 22nd – 26th of September2008. This training was not only for medical laboratories but also for industries such as mining, soil, food, and beer placing emphasis on quality and laboratory standards which is practiced in the world.

This training was facilitated by the National Industries Standard Technology (NISIT) and conducted by a representative of the National Accreditation Testing Authority (NATA) from Australia. Although the training was for a week, it was very intense. The first three days were spent looking at aspects for a quality laboratory management including familiarising with laboratory standards, the importance of having standards, what to do to get accredited and how to utilise managerial skills in the most effective way.

During the last two days we were taught on how to conduct audits and what to expect if our laboratory is to be audited.  Training such as these is important because then we are able to meet medical laboratory standards and this enables us to improve our turnaround time and have confidence in the results we sent to the clinicians.

Dear friends at GGH

I was impressed with today’s feature article on your hospital being hooked up to the web. It is a big achievement and a milestone for PNG and the highlands region.

I have a father who has a big problem with his knees. Both of his knees are no longer working well and he needs specialised medical attention.

I am wondering if GGH has a department or unit that takes care of such problems coz I want to take him there. I am from Southern Highlands and my father has a big problem and I am really concerned about him.

Please let me know and if appointments need to be made.

Regards,

Ruth

Thank you and Congratulations to the management of GGH, I was born there and I can say am very proud and fortunate to call GGH my birth place and home. I have travelled to most parts of PNG and have compared almost all hospitals to GGH, no hospital can be compared to the excellent feeling of being at
home, customer service attitudes of nurses, doctors and all GGH employees.

It is different to others, the turn around time to attend to patients is the shortest at GGH, while the worst is POMGH, you can die waiting in Pom, or deliver at the corridors for pregnant mums. But for GGH you have the best maternity ward in the whole of PNG, all my children were born up there, accept for one who was born in POM, and I experienced nightmares because no nursing officer was around to assist my wife.

To all of you at GGH love you so much, please keep up the good work, you have been compared to many
others. With your website you have been the first in PNG, post more information on types of diseases encountered on a month to month basis, and commentaries on how to avoid them, as we say prevention is better than cure, post your monthly reports patients being served, the types of sickneses, employee of the month, the turn around time for waiting etc, the customer care attitude you have, show it on your web and the whole world will be amazed at your services not expected in a third world country. And show to those working at POMGH the best way to manage a hospital, let them see in your Key Performance Indicators, and targets and achievements.

Thanks, Apaniga Takio Tru, Yayave.
