I would like to congratulate the staff, management and board of the Goroka Base Hospital to be the first hospital to go on-line in PNG. While surfing the net to get an update on health issues in PNG I accidentally came across your website. I commend the CEO and his team for the success of the project, and hope others will follow.

I was shocked to read about the death of the late Dr Peter Are. Peter and I enrolled as dental students at the UPNG Dental School in 1981 and graduated together with Bachelor of Dental Surgery(BDS) in 1986. We both did our dental electives at the Adelaide Dental Hospital, South Australia in 1985. After graduation the late Dr Are went to Arawa and I was posted to Mt Hagen.

Words cannot measure how much the late Dr Peter Are has contributed to the NDA as a member and representative of all dental officers. We are grateful that his representation has led to dental officers enjoying the same renumeration and conditions as the medical officers.

As a professional colleague he aimed for the best, which reflects the state of art dental facilities in Mt Hagen Hospital. The numerous responsibilities he had did not hinder his professional development, which resulted in a successful achievement of a postgraduate qualification from the University of Sydney. The late Dr Are had his patients at heart and would always strive to do the best for them.

PNG and especially the people of WesternHighlands have lost the best and a great dentist.

The late Dr Peter Are will be remembered for his diligence and professionalism in the conduct of his duties and responsibilities.
