Management Structure
The Public Hospital (amendment) Act 1994 empowers the establishment of Hospital Board of Management in public hospitals in PNG. Since its establishments the hospital currently is governed by its 4th Board and has an Executive Management in operation with a Chief Executive Officer and three Executive Directors.
The Board is appointed by the National Government (National Executive Council) fairly representing from all sectors of the community through the Ministry of Health and thus:
- Health Department Representative
- Three Business Representatives
- Two Community Representatives
- Women’s Representative
- Church Representative
- Hospital Staff Representative
One of the members is appointed Chairman and the other Deputy Chairman by the National Executive Council and gazetted.
Executive Staff
The Board employs qualified executive staff through the normal public service employment processes. It appoints a Chief Executive Officer to manage the hospital and supported by three directors, medical, nursing and corporate services. Functionally the directorates of medical and nursing provide the core business of clinical health services while the directorate of corporate services provide support resources.
